NORTH PLAINS HISTORY

On one of their earliest vists, Lewis and Clark declared the North Tualatin Plains the best available spot in all of their travels for a city of 50,000 people. They declared it is "in the midst of a Garden of Eden" where scenery is beautiful, land is fertile and farms are rich. Efforts to create a bustling boom town were strong in the early 1900's, with planned railroads, a bustling downtown, and rich school system. However, due to a lack of responses and the relavtive success of the Portland Metropolis so close to the town, the city of North Plains has remained a close-knot small town with some of the most "Edenic" sights and scenery in Oregon. Just driving through the farmland, past the open fields and mature forests, you'll get swept away in the potential bliss of country life - within a half hour of everything the City of Portland has to offer.

PARKS, EVENTS, & ENTERTAINMENT

Elephant Garlic Festival - North Plains is probably most well known for its Garlic Festival, held each year in early August.  This festival grew out of North Plains Day's, and first took on the "Elephant Garlic" theme.  Now, besides providing fun for the town's citizens, the event draws thousands to our small town to sample all sorts of garlic treats, including garlic ice cream!  The festival also features games, music, and craft vendors.  For more information about previous Garlic Festivals and schedule for this year's upcoming festival, check out the Garlic Festival page on the Chamber of Commerce web site.

Lake View Farms - 32055 NW N Ave. North Plains, OR 97133 - Lake view Farms started in 1987 as a produce garden, but after two years they found people were coming for the park area much more than for fruits and vegetables. The farm now features a miniature train and paddle wheel boat and draws over 50,000 people every October. They also feature a 10 acre corn maze with a new design each year.

Horning's Fishing & Picnic Hideout - Pumpkin Ridge Rd. North Plains, OR 97133 - Imagine a short scenic drive west on U.S. 26 featuring trees, green rolling hills and a clean peaceful country setting. An adventure awaits the active family or group, with enough open space for romantic walks though enchanted woodlands and glistening lakes. Fishing is available year-round and no licenses are necessary at Horning's Hideout!
