Clinton Neighborhood Guide | SE Portland Homes

The charming Clinton area is technically part of the Hosford-Abernathy neighborhood of Southeast Portland, but its unique character and popular restaurant strip have set it apart from the surrounding streets, meriting its own guide. One of the most popular hangouts - both day and night - in Southeast, the Clinton district is a quirky, close-knit community with a solid mix of down-home and up-scale amenities. The Clinton Street Theater shows art-house films and a Rocky Horror Picture Show weekly, and there are plenty of cute vintage shops and record stores to duck into. The neighborhood boasts excellent schools, and housing prices are reasonable, with lots of charming fixer-uppers just waiting for someone to she them a little love.

Clinton Street is located in Southeast Portland between SE Powell Boulevard and SE Division. Most of the retail stores and restaurants are located in the 20's, with major groupings of cute places to shop and dine on SE 21st and SE 26th. The official neighborhood designation is Hosford-Abernethy, but some blocks within the larger neighborhood are better know by their smaller district names, like Ladd’s Addition or Clinton. The Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood borders the Willamette River to the west, Southeast 29th Avenue to the east, Powell Boulevard to the south and Hawthorne Boulevard to the north.

The Clinton district is filled with cute bungalows and Portland four-square homes, with some 1940's homes and new construction in the mix. Along Division you'll also find attractive modern condos with creative architecture and a sustainable atmosphere. Despite these modern touches and active restoration projects throughout the neighborhood, most home styles are culturally significant, historic, quirky and charming. The Clinton area has an up-and-coming energy running through it, with young couples and single families trying to create an excited place to be and feel pride for.
