Sandy, Oregon has joined with other cities nationwide in becoming part of the “Main Street Program”; a program designed to promote, organize & design a city’s main street area into a flourishing attraction that benefits businesses, locals, communities & of course property value! I first heard of the program when I recently attended a Chamber of Commerce meeting for Mt. Hood. The Villages of Mt. Hood are looking into participating in the program as well. I was excited to hear that the beautiful stretch of 26 I drive to get to Tyrolean Meadows in Government Camp may one day highlighted with unique new small shops & restaurants in between the beautiful stretches of wilderness.
Anyhow, depending on how the program is structured there are many ways to benefit; in cases where the area is smaller such as The Villages of Mt. Hood the organizing & facilitating will be a grass root effort.
Governor Kulongoski recently awarded Transforming Downtown status to Sandy, there are more than 1,200 Main Street programs nationwide! For more information on the Main Street Program CLICK HERE!
