We’re pleased to introduce Jami Smith, the graphic design star behind the McDonald Group Realtors. Jami brings years of experience as a creative designer with a great sense of color and creativity, as well as tons of energy and support to the team. I recently sat down with Jami to talk about her love of Portland, her cats, and her ideas about the future with the McDonald Group. Here’s Jami!
Why Oregon? What is it about Portland that brought you here and kept you?
I have moved to Portland from Northern California twice now. The first time, on a whim, wanting nothing more than to get as far away from California as possible. I didn’t realize all that Portland had to offer until my career brought me back to California. Suddenly I found myself surrounded by concrete, breathing smog and buying my groceries (sadly) at Walmart. When the opportunity presented itself to return to Portland, I jumped at it. Now, I try to take full advantage of what Portland has to offer; farmer’s markets, local restaurants, beautiful downtown, clean and reliable public transportation and gorgeous green scenery. I hope to live here forever!
Why the McDonald Group? What is it about Kristie and Scott that made you want to be involved?
I was looking for an opportunity to work part time as a graphic designer. Kristie and Scott have been amazing to work with. They are fun, share a great sense of humor and are just genuinely awesome people! I am having great time!
What are you excited about in the coming months/years? Are there any new opportunities that are open to you because of joining the team?
I’m excited about school starting in September! I’m an elementary school teacher, and I am very much looking forward to substitute teaching in the coming school year. Working for the McDonald Group has allowed me the flexibility to pursue a career in education while utilizing my skills and passion for graphic design.
What were you doing before you teamed up with the McDonald Group?
I taught kindergarten in California for a year and a half before being laid off due to massive state wide budget cuts. Happily, it was just the excuse I needed to return to Portland!
What are your hobbies/interests?
I love sewing, singing, listening to my boyfriend play guitar, hanging out with my three ridiculous kitty cats, cooking and eating vegan deliciousness and walking around Portland.
