We’ll soon be seeing a new addition to the colorful assortment of vehicles on Portland streets. Joining the zebra-striped Smart Cars, hand-painted vans, and parades of colorful customized bikes, the new “Double Decker PDX” fleet will bring the iconic tall red buses from across the pond to the streets of Bridgetown. Claiming to be “Portland’s only luxury Double Decker charter/limousine service,” this new company will host tours and events for visitors and locals wanting a to see Portland and the surrounding areas from a different angle.
Providing a perfect opportunity for sight seeing from the high vantage point of the upper level, these buses will be a fun new way to see the beautiful state of Oregon. Imagine touring through wine country in your own private charter bus, or taking all of your friends to the big game in style. How cool would it be to host a pub crawl in what was once a genuine public bus in England? The shiny new bus (as of now the only member of the possible fleet of buses) features a few upgrades you won’t find in a London public transportation vehicle: the recycled leather upholstery and flooring are shiny, the upper level features a bar, the engine runs on biodiesel. Plus, each time the bus is used for an event, the owners purchase carbon offsets through Trees of the Future.
Double Decker PDX will make its official debut to the public on July 1, at Portland’s First Thursday art walk in the Pearl District. The red bus will be parked at Urban Studio, 206 NW 10th Avenue. The owners encourage everyone to stop by for free beer, wine, snacks, and a chance to walk through the freshly restored bus.
