According to the Estacada, Oregon newspaper Estacada News, the popular Estacada-area retreat, Bagby Hot Springs, will experience temporary closures for several months as Mt. Hood National Forest service workers repair bath shacks, hot tubs, and other infrastructure. Workers began last week and are expected to be finished with their renovation in October. Bagby Hot Springs is located 40 miles south of Estacada via Highway 224 and Forest Road No. 70.
The main bathhouse at Bagby Hot Springs contains five tubs in private stalls. These hold up to 200 gallons each and were hewn by hand from single logs. The bathhouse below the main one contains three log tubs and one 6ft round tub in a community setting. The Bagby Hot Springs have needed these repairs for quite some time, and visitors to the spas will enjoy the updated structural supports, soaking tubs, decks, benches, and new toilets at the site. The current rehabilitation is being carried out by Forest Service employees, students from Timberlake Job Corps, and citizen volunteers.
