is always checking up on the latest news coming out of Estacada, Oregon, the site of our gorgeous development Cascadia Ridge. This week brings great news from Estacada High School, which will finally receive needed improvements to their baseball playing field, thanks to help from the surrounding close-knit community. Next season, the Estacada Rangers varsity playing field will be ready for game time, with very little cost to the school.
The Estacada High School outfield and left-center field used to sit around five feet below home plate, presenting an unfair challenge to the school’s team. Estacada coach Ryan Carpenter created Project Rebuild and enlisted the help of his fellow coaches and community members to help reconstruct a level playing field, moving over 6,000 cubic yards of fill dirt to even out the imbalance. The dirt has been brought in on a dump truck driven by the baseball coach himself, the materials were all donated to the team, and the labor is all home-grown and free. With that kind of financial, physical, and moral support, the job was completed without spending the $25,000 previously slotted for the rebuilding project. The Estacada School District will be supplying a new irrigation system, PGE donated four 40-foot telephone poles to provide the frame for a new backstop, and a new 8-ft wooden fence has also been donated.
This project is the perfect example of the kind of community you’ll find in Estacada – neighbors helping each other get things done. Where else can you find community members getting their hands very dirty to support the local high school baseball team? It’s a great model for community success, and certainly serves as yet another reason to love Estacada, Oregon. Play Ball!!!
