Today the sun shined over Happy Valley and the entire Portland metro area, and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful afternoon to celebrate the grand opening of the Sunrise Heights model home with radio host Savannah Jones from 99.5 The Wolf!. Thank you to all who made it out to see the hard work of the entire team, including our amazing builder TA Liesy Northwest, our lender Beverly Liesy, and everyone at the McDonald Group. We are so proud of these gorgeous custom homes that are changing the way Portland thinks about real estate. The event was a blast, as you can see from these photos – the house looked beautiful, the radio filled the air with great country music, and we were so happy with the turnout. Come down to Happy Valley to check out the new construction that’s been getting so much attention.

Tom Liesy of TA Liesy Homes NW has plenty to say in his recent interview with the Clackamas Review about the new construction housing market. Tom is seen in the attached picture just out front of our model at Sunrise Heights in Happy Valley. As you will see from the picture Tom has plenty to point out in our current market, and he isn’t kidding when he says we can’t build them fast enough. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tom as his Realtor on some of his bigger projects (such as Sunrise Heights) and the amount of interest we get daily is amazing. We have many people waiting for our grand opening event taking place this weekend, 4/16 & 4/17 where we will be opening the door to one of Tom’s latest home designs, “The Whitman”- a vintage style plan in the heart of Happy Valley! Our prices, product and lots just can’t be beat! -Kristie McD. Your Happy Valley Realtor

Don’t miss your chance to welcome summer to the Pacific Northwest with Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day on April 12th – noon to 8:00 pm at all participating locations. A percentage of the proceeds of supplemental sales on Free Cone Day in Happy Valley and Portland will be donated to The Backpack Buddy Program, a volunteer-run organization to provide packs of food to children in need on Fridays to take home for the weekend. Many children rely on the school lunch program for most of their food during the week, and need extra help meeting their weekend nutrition requirements. The program aims to help more than 700 children in the North Clackamas area – and you can do your part by eating ice cream… great deal, right?

Happy Valley is one of our favorite areas in the Portland region, and the area is growing fast! This coming autumn, the leased Clackamas Corner Library space the Clackamas Town Center will move east into Happy Valley and become the new Sunnyside Library branch at 13793 SE Sieben Parkway, just south of Sunnyside Road off 147th Avenue. Thanks to city and state funding, as well as donations from Happy Valley residents, the new library has secured almost $2.3 million to expand from its currently cramped 7,790 square feet to 17,000 square feet.

Yesterday we blogged about a new state measure proposing a Wine Country Lover’s specialty license plate, and we thought we’d share a related story featured in Happy Valley’s March Newsletter (pdf) from Happy Valley Traffic Officer Jon Lee. Many people don’t know that Oregon State law requires vehicles to show both front and rear license plates, even though many cars are sold without holes drilled for front plates. Failure to show both plates could cost you almost $200 in fines – so make sure you comply – and snowing your front plates on the windshield isn’t enough.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau redistricting data, the city of Happy Valley‘s official population is 13,903. That jump up in size means the city of Happy Valley will now receive a larger share of state shared revenue that comes from cigarette, gas and liquor tax – which will help out the burgeoning community’s library, 911 service, and other neighborhood resources. We’ve witnessed the growth ourselves, from the start of new boutiques and restaurants in the area, to the beautiful parks and community green spaces that have popped up around town. Happy Valley is the place to be, and the McDonald Group Realtors are proud to serve as Happy Valley’s most experienced agents.

We recently wrote our McDonald Group Realtors Damascus, Oregon Real Estate Guide, so our ears pricked up at this interesting news out of the new Clackamas County town. The city of Damascus is currently looking for property owners who are interested in selling or donating property in the area to become parks and green spaces for the growing community. Always wanted to have a park named after you or a loved one? This is an historic opportunity to become a part of Oregon’s newest city. The parks and recreational areas are part of the city’s recently passed comprehensive plan to keep residents’ desired balance between real estate development, new construction, and natural open space with their new Parks and Open Space Master Plan.

Although Kristie and Scott McDonald aren’t related to that famous Old MacDonald out on the farm, they understand the desire to live a bit of the country life in the heart of the city. Luckily, we stumbled upon a small section in the Happy Valley municipal code that should make some wannabe urban farmers shout E-I-E-I-O!
